Set up Android ADT + Oracle JDK on your Ubuntu

Version of Ubuntu I’m using: 12.04 LTS

  1. Firstly, we need to install JDK. If you want to live with OpenJDK, it should be trivial to set up. But, in case you would like to work on Oracle JDK (usually that’s preferred way, even IntelliJ is complaining to have Oracle JDK installed just because of performance), it will be useful to follow links: http://www.webupd8.org/2012/01/install-oracle-java-jdk-7-in-ubuntu-via.html – with description how to install oracle JDK and how to simply set up environment variables, and https://launchpad.net/~webupd8team/+archive/java about adding oracle java custom PPA to your system.
  2. Secondly, follow Chris Klepka post about how to set up Android ADT. He is using OpenJDK, but having ready first step means you could omit that and just go through Android ADT steps. (still based on Eclipse, Android Studio is now in early stage but I believe in few next months the stable solution will appear).
